Kayen completed his JD at Osgoode Hall Law School. During his studies, he became particularly interested in client advocacy through his work on the Wills Project at Pro Bono Students Canada, where he provided estate planning services to low-income seniors. Kayen also acted as a researcher for Litigation Help, cementing his interest in litigation. 

Prior to law school, Kayen worked at law firms that specialize in estate planning, personal injury, and real estate law. Having gained experience across several areas of law with distinct approaches to client services, he appreciates the varied nature of legal practice which has inspired him to pursue a career that remains open to diverse legal areas. With this in mind, Kayen approaches each matter as an opportunity to deepen his understanding of the law and develop his skills as an advocate. 

During his undergraduate studies, Kayen completed an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy at the University of Toronto, graduating with high distinction. Throughout his undergraduate experience, he developed a passion for moral theories, epistemology, and metaphysics, with a particular interest in ancient Chinese philosophy. His academic studies have informed his approach to analyzing complex legal issues and examining competing perspectives. His legal education allowed him to apply his philosophical interests in a practical field which he continues to leverage in his legal career.  

Outside of work, Kayen enjoys playing soccer and video games, weightlifting, and watching movies.
