Gary obtained his B.A. from McGill University and in 1974 was a Parliamentary Internship Scholar at the House of Commons in Ottawa. He was granted his LL.B from University of Toronto in 1978 and was called to the bar in 1980. Gary was granted an LL.M in Constitutional Law in 1990 and an LL.M in ADR in 1998, both from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was appointed adjunct Professor of Law at that school where he has taught both Civil Procedure and Dispute Resolution. Gary was a Sessional Lecturer in Civil Procedure at Queen’s University, Faculty of Law in Kingston Ontario. Gary is a frequent speaker and training coach for the Advocates Society and other professional bodies.

Gary has spoken about and taught both advocacy and ADR to clients, professional groups, and other law firms. He has also published extensively in other areas of the law and is a frequent teaching coach for the Advocates Society , Toronto.

Gary was called to the Bar in 1980, and joined  McCague Borlack LLP as a partner in 2003. In 2011, Gary became a member of the Toronto Commercial Arbitration Society.
